My exposure to entrepreneurship started at a young age. I can remember summers spent at my grandparents house, eyes glued to the tv. During almost every commercial there would be an advertisement for products that seemed a little outrageous, but others that seemed to be quite helpful. Products like the Chia Pet and Bacon Bowl were some that struck my fancy, but there were so many others around that I would see everyday- something new and exciting that would make lives easier. Fast forward ten years to the first time I watched Shark Tank. This is when I started to understand what it meant to be an entrepreneur, seeing so many people come on the show with what they thought was what people wanted and needed. It’s really cool to me to watch what deals are made on the show and then seeing the products in stores like Bed Bath and Beyond.
That being said, getting a deal on Shark Tank is not why I am taking this class. Instead, I hope that after taking this class I will gain a better understanding of what it means to be an entrepreneur and how entrepreneurship will affect me in my personal journey as a business student who isn’t quite sure what she’s doing next.

Hey there Laura! I totally understand what you mean about being exposed to entrepreneurship through outrageous childhood television commercials. I’m old enough to remember Chia Pets, and I remember the company got big enough to branch out and make partnerships with other brands like Hello Kitty and Scooby-Doo in order to make more themed products. Another hilarious one I remember is the advertise for those giant inflatable boxing mitts where kids could just whack and pummel each other with oversized beach-ball gloves. Don’t worry: you’re not the only one who has no idea what she wants to do next. I guess that’s the whole point of entrepreneurs though; there aren’t any rules.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that "ENT Student"above is me, Simoli P, from your group/
DeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteI remember the first time my sister got a Chia Pet as a gift on her tenth birthday (I was about five years old), but I never knew something so small could make so much money. Although our entrepreneurship experiences were different, I feel like both of us got a great understanding of what entrepreneurship entails. Shark Tank is an example I thought of while doing this assignment since the judges are successful entrepreneurs who are giving others a chance to be successful in a company they believe is worthwhile.
